- Bitcoin recovered to $78,553 on August 31, then slipped toward $77,300 by September 2

Bitcoin's price whipsaw mirrors ETF flows
Bitcoin's price fell from around $80,268 on August 27 to $77,821 on August 28, then recovered to $78,553 on August 31 before slipping back toward $77,300 by September 2. The intraday swings have coincided with sharp reversals in ETF investor behavior. Bitcoin ETFs posted $216.7 million in inflows on August 31 and $201.9 million in withdrawals on August 28, signaling no clear directional conviction.
Yet the longer picture tells a different story. Despite this market choppiness, Bitcoin ETFs have attracted more than $3 billion in fresh capital over the past 30 days, and Bitcoin's price rose by 22% during this reporting period. The month-long inflow total suggests underlying strength even if daily flows remain volatile.
Altcoins break their streak
The simultaneous outflows from Ethereum, XRP, and Solana ETFs on Wednesday mark a notable inflection. Spot Ethereum ETFs recorded about $48 million in net outflows, snapping 12 consecutive trading days of inflows that had pulled in roughly $1.62 billion. Before Wednesday's reversal, cumulative net inflows into Ethereum funds had reached about $13.03 billion.
XRP ETFs posted $7.2 million of withdrawals after 11 straight sessions of inflows, lifting cumulative inflows to about $1.68 billion. Solana funds recorded approximately $6 million of outflows, ending their own 11-session streak, with cumulative net inflows remaining around $1.34 billion.
What comes next
The timing is striking. Ethereum, XRP, and Solana ETF funds had maintained steady buying even as Bitcoin ETF demand swung between sessions. Wednesday's reversal broke that divergence, suggesting either Bitcoin's return to inflows is reasserting itself across the market, or altcoin enthusiasm has cooled. One session cannot settle the question. The next few days of flows will clarify whether this is a brief correction or the start of a broader reallocation among digital asset ETFs.
