In brief

  • BlackRock bought a net $1.57 billion of Bitcoin over the past month, Arkham data shows.
  • BlackRock's latest $195.6 million purchase came after Bitcoin rebounded above $84,000.
  • Holdings reached up to 801,769 BTC, worth about $67.87 billion at the time of reporting.
  • Arkham tracks BlackRock's crypto portfolio at $77.93 billion, with Bitcoin above 87%.

What Arkham's data shows

Arkham Intelligence data showed BlackRock buying Bitcoin on most ETF trading sessions over the past month, for a net total of $1.57 billion. The holdings grew after a month of steady inflows into its Bitcoin funds, according to the report.

What did the latest buy look like on the blockchain? It showed up as batches of 300 BTC moving from a Coinbase hot wallet to a wallet Arkham links to BlackRock. BlackRock hasn't confirmed that wallet attribution in the reporting.

Per the same data, BlackRock now holds up to 801,769 BTC, worth about $67.87 billion at Bitcoin's price when U.Today's article was written. The buying came while IBIT, BlackRock's spot Bitcoin ETF, kept bringing in new investor money.

The $84,000 rebound

The $195.6 million purchase followed Bitcoin's move back above $84,000. U.Today said the timing suggested the rally had drawn new interest from institutional investors (that's the outlet's interpretation, and it isn't something the transfer data shows on its own).

The outlet also described BlackRock as a dominant fund in the Bitcoin ETF market.

Bitcoin leads the tracked portfolio

Arkham tracked BlackRock's crypto portfolio at $77.93 billion, with Bitcoin making up more than 87% of it. Ethereum was the second-largest holding at $10.06 billion worth of ETH. Those are Arkham's tracked figures, and they shouldn't be read as BlackRock's total crypto exposure.

Still, the split is lopsided. Bitcoin accounts for most of what Arkham can see in the portfolio, ETH is the next-largest position, and the past month's $1.57 billion in net buying went into BTC.
