Cardano's ADA climbs 10% to highest since May as bitcoin stays range-bound
In brief
- ADA gained 10% in 24 hours and traded above 27 cents, according to CoinDesk data.
- Bitcoin rose 1% to $86,065.58, staying within its $84,000 to $87,000 range.
- ADA's move has a reason that is hard to pin down, CoinDesk said.
- The U.S. Dollar Index hit 102.53, its highest since April 2025, CoinDesk reported.
ADA outpaces a quiet market
ADA was also up 4% since midnight UTC, per CoinDesk data. That's a sharp move against a backdrop that didn't offer much else. Bitcoin rose 1% to $86,065.58 and ether added 0.5% to $2,715.52.
Bitcoin, in particular, remains stuck in its recent $84,000 to $87,000 price range.
Smaller tokens did a bit better than the majors (VVV, ENA and PEPE each rose 5% over 24 hours), but none of them came close to ADA's pace.
ADA doubled them.
Why ADA? CoinDesk isn't sure
CoinDesk said the exact reason for ADA's outperformance is hard to pin down. It pointed to two possible explanations, and it didn't confirm either one as the driver.
The first is RealFi, a product announced on Oct. 1 that lets users route stablecoins into institutional credit (CoinDesk put the yields at up to 9% annually). The second is Cardano's upcoming Dijkstra era, the network's next major scalability and optimization phase, which CoinDesk suggested might be pulling in capital. According to the report, Phase 1 is due to roll out between late December 2026 and early 2027, introducing Linear Leios and nested transactions to raise transaction throughput.
Both are narratives, not proven causes. It's worth reading them that way.
The dollar's climb
In traditional markets, the U.S. Dollar Index rose to 102.53, its highest since April 2025, CoinDesk reported. That extends a climb from the Sept. 9 low of 98.60.
A sustained rise in the DXY is often seen as a headwind for bitcoin and crypto. CoinDesk noted, though, that correlations suggest little link between the two. For now, bitcoin's still sitting inside its $84,000 to $87,000 range while ADA does the moving.
Frequently asked questions
Why did Cardano's ADA rise on Oct. 5?
CoinDesk said the exact reason for ADA's outperformance is hard to pin down. It suggested momentum around RealFi, a product announced Oct. 1 that routes stablecoins into institutional credit, and interest in Cardano's upcoming Dijkstra era as possible explanations. Neither has been confirmed as the cause.
What is Cardano's Dijkstra era?
CoinDesk described Dijkstra as Cardano's next major scalability and optimization phase. According to its report, Phase 1 is due to roll out between late December 2026 and early 2027 and will introduce Linear Leios and nested transactions to increase transaction throughput.
