CF Benchmarks launches CFB Oracle, bringing its BlackRock ETF benchmarks onchain
In brief
- CFB Oracle, launched by CF Benchmarks, brings its index data to blockchain applications.
- CFB Oracle benchmarks cover crypto, stocks, bonds, commodities and currencies.
- CFB Oracle is live on Ethereum, HyperEVM and Robinhood Chain, with more networks planned.
- Payward, Kraken's parent, plans to use it for a U.S. perpetual futures product awaiting approval.
- CF Benchmarks now competes with oracle providers Chainlink and Pyth.
What CFB Oracle does
The idea is to take the same pricing infrastructure used by major financial institutions and make it available to developers building investment products on blockchains. According to CF Benchmarks, those developers can use the feeds to build onchain index funds, tokenized portfolios and derivatives without developing their own pricing systems.
It's a data layer, not a product shop.
CFB Oracle won't issue funds or handle trades (its role is to supply the reference prices those products need). The company says its indices are already used by products representing more than $120 billion in assets.
CF Benchmarks also described two design choices. The data is digitally signed, according to the company, so applications can check that prices came from CF Benchmarks and haven't been altered. Each index is published at the same frequency for all customers; nobody pays extra for faster access.
Kraken's perps plan
Kraken parent Payward intends to use CFB Oracle to supply pricing data for an upcoming U.S. perpetual futures offering powered by Hyperliquid. That product isn't live. It's still awaiting regulatory approval.
A new entrant in the oracle market
The launch puts CF Benchmarks in competition with oracle providers such as Chainlink and Pyth, which already supply market data to decentralized trading and lending platforms.
So why does a Wall Street index shop want a seat in defi? The move comes as more financial firms look to offer traditional investment products through decentralized finance, and CF Benchmarks is arriving with benchmarks that already sit behind BlackRock's bitcoin ETF and CME Group's crypto futures. Ethereum, HyperEVM and Robinhood Chain are the starting point, and the company says it plans to support other compatible networks.
