In brief

  • Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong says Bitcoin's latest bear-market bottom is already in this cycle
  • Armstrong expects Bitcoin to trend higher over the next one to two years before the 2028 halving
  • Armstrong targets $400,000 Bitcoin price by 2030
  • Bitcoin must clear its 50-week moving average at $81,473 to confirm bull case
  • US spot Bitcoin ETFs saw $3.4 billion inflow in August, strongest since July 2025

Armstrong's $400K Target

Armstrong called $400,000 by 2030 a "reasonable target" for Bitcoin. Bitcoin was trading around $77,000 at the time of his statements, roughly 39% below the record $126,198 reached in October 2025.

Armstrong tied his optimism to Bitcoin's historical four-year cycle. A weekly close above the 50-week moving average would strengthen the argument that Bitcoin's bear market had ended. Galaxy Research put that average at $81,473 on Sept. 2.

Recent Momentum

Bitcoin's recent price action supports Armstrong's framing. The cryptocurrency climbed 25.4% in August, rising from $62,899 to $78,852. That rally accelerated in late August: Bitcoin gained 23.5% during the week ended August 23, producing its largest weekly increase in dollar terms on record.

Institutional interest has followed. US spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds attracted $3.4 billion during August, their strongest monthly inflow since July 2025.

Historical Precedent

Armstrong's bottom call aligns with Bitcoin's historical pattern. In four of Bitcoin's five completed bear markets, the first upside break of the 50-week moving average came after the cycle low had already been established.

Armstrong framed his view as personal rather than a Coinbase forecast. The distinction matters—it signals conviction without committing the exchange to a formal prediction.
