CoinGecko API goes live on API3's AirnodeHub marketplace for AI agents
In brief
- API3 announced the CoinGecko integration on October 20, 2026; CoinGecko amplified it October 22.
- Agents can query CoinGecko prices, market caps and on-chain wallet balances through AirnodeHub.
- Each response carries a cryptographic signature attesting to the data's source.
- AirnodeHub, launched October 5, offers free calls while it remains in early access.
- API3's move of providers onto their own Airnodes is still a plan, not a completed rollout.
What agents get
Through the new listing, agents can query CoinGecko for prices, market caps and on-chain wallet balances. Each response carries a cryptographic signature that attests to where the data came from. CoinGecko's own post described the listing as a source of verified market data and wallet details that agents can check.
That signature is the point.
Calls don't cost anything yet. API3 launched AirnodeHub in early access on October 5, 2026, and it's free to use while it stays there, according to Crypto Briefing's report. The platform debuted with around 36 data services spanning market data, FX rates, news and weather updates (CoinGecko is now one of them).
How the marketplace works
AirnodeHub pairs OpenAPI specifications with what API3 calls x-airnode metadata, so an agent can figure out what a service offers without custom instructions. It also supports agent protocols such as MCP.
Crypto Briefing framed the integration as an extension of API3's long-running pitch around first-party oracles. A first-party oracle is one where the data provider itself serves the data, rather than routing it through a chain of middlemen. For AI agents making automated calls, that's a shorter trail back to the original source.
What's still a plan
API3 plans to move service providers onto their own Airnodes, the node software that lets a data provider serve its API directly. Under that arrangement, providers would keep the majority of the revenue their services generate. It isn't live yet, though; the transition to providers running their own nodes remains a plan, not a completed rollout.
Pricing hasn't kicked in either. Crypto Briefing noted it's unclear how agents (and the operators running them) will respond once requests stop being free, which is the real test for any pay-per-request model.
Neither API3's initial announcement nor CoinGecko's post mentioned trading or any token-related activity.
Frequently asked questions
What is AirnodeHub?
AirnodeHub is a pay-per-request marketplace API3 built so AI agents can buy data without a human in the loop. API3 launched it in early access on October 5, 2026, with around 36 data services spanning market data, FX rates, news and weather updates. Calls are free while it remains in early access.
What CoinGecko data can AI agents access through AirnodeHub?
Through the listing, agents can query CoinGecko for prices, market caps and on-chain wallet balances. Each response carries a cryptographic signature attesting to where the data came from.
What is a first-party oracle?
A first-party oracle is one where the data provider itself serves the data rather than routing it through middlemen. Crypto Briefing described the CoinGecko integration as an extension of API3's long-running pitch around first-party oracles.
Do data providers on AirnodeHub run their own nodes?
Not yet. API3 plans to move service providers onto their own Airnodes, node software that lets a data provider serve its API directly, with providers keeping the majority of the revenue their services generate. That transition remains a plan, not a completed rollout.
