DekaBank launches Bitcoin trading for participating Sparkassen, €0.99 fee plus spread
In brief
- DekaBank launched crypto trading in the Sparkasse app on Oct. 19.
- Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, XRP and Polygon's POL are available to adult customers.
- Each order costs €0.99 plus an unpublished DekaBank spread.
- Withdrawals go only to whitelisted providers, not to self-custody wallets.
- Each Sparkasse decides on its own whether to join, and the rollout is staged.
Which Sparkassen offer it
Customers need a current account at a participating Sparkasse. They open the crypto account in the app's "Anlegen" (investing) section. Each Sparkasse decides for itself whether to offer the service, and Deka said the rollout would happen in stages over the coming months. As of Oct. 20, Deka's participating-bank list named Frankfurter Sparkasse, Sparkasse Rottal-Inn, Niederrheinische Sparkasse RheinLippe, Taunus Sparkasse and Sparkasse Karlsruhe.
Plans for the launch were first reported in June 2025. Deka's announcement and bank directory didn't include any figures for opened crypto accounts or trading customers, so it isn't clear how many people actually use the service.
Fees and the spread
Deka's retail pricing sheet sets a €0.99 charge per purchase or sale, with no minimum order size and a €250,000 maximum per transaction. That isn't the full cost, though. Each quote also includes a DekaBank spread added to a market reference price, and the sheet doesn't give a number for that spread.
The order fee alone doesn't tell customers what a trade costs.
Deka's product page also warns that technical faults and maintenance can stop customers from buying or selling at the time or price they want.
Custody and withdrawals
Deka holds customers' crypto centrally and keeps the private keys for them in a shared (omnibus) wallet, its product page says. Coins can only be sent out to addresses at specified crypto-asset service providers (CASPs). All other addresses are excluded, so customers can't send coins straight to their own self-custody wallet.
Deka's October whitelist named Crypto Finance (Deutschland) GmbH, Tangany GmbH, Börse Stuttgart Digital Custody GmbH and Bullish Europe GmbH. Custody and permitted outbound transfers are listed as free. A separate minimum-delivery table sets the Bitcoin threshold at 0.0001 BTC.
Deka also warns that customers could lose their entire investment and says crypto holdings aren't covered by statutory bank-deposit protection.
