Ethereum wallet holding 12,746 ETH moves after 10.2 years dormant, Whale Alert says
In brief
- Whale Alert flagged an Ethereum address holding 12,746 ETH moving after roughly 10.2 years.
- The coins' destination and the owner's intentions haven't been publicly reported.
- Other early wallets moving 10,000, 2,000 and 40,000 ETH reappeared over 2025 and 2026, Crypto Briefing said.
- Some past activations leaned toward staking rather than selling, according to Crypto Briefing.
What Whale Alert flagged
Whale Alert flagged the activation of the address, which held 12,746 ETH before it moved. It had been dormant for about 10.2 years. That's all that has been confirmed so far.
Crypto Briefing said nobody has publicly reported where the coins went or what the owner plans to do with them. The outlet also noted that analytics firms see a common pattern with long-dormant holders. They often start with a small test transfer, then follow with larger movements.
This wallet's next step isn't public.
A pattern of returning wallets
It isn't the first old ETH wallet to wake up. According to Crypto Briefing, several other early Ethereum wallets reappeared over 2025 and 2026, and notable examples moved 10,000 ETH, 2,000 ETH and 40,000 ETH. The outlet linked many of those wallets to early Ethereum holders (particularly participants in the project's initial coin offering). It also said some of them had acquisition costs as low as $3,100 for significant ETH holdings.
Those details describe the earlier wallets. The report doesn't connect them to this address.
Whale Alert, Lookonchain, Arkham Intelligence and the block explorer Etherscan have all surfaced on-chain movements from older wallets, per the same report.
Selling or staking
Crypto Briefing reported that reactivated holders haven't all done the same thing. Some sent coins to exchanges, which usually signals a possible sale. Others put their ETH toward staking, which means locking it up to help secure the Ethereum network in exchange for rewards. The outlet said its research shows some activations have leaned toward staking rather than selling.
The report also covered price. Crypto Briefing said earlier reactivations have had limited immediate market impact, and the market has typically absorbed individual activations without major ETH price swings. For this 12,746 ETH wallet, the destination of the funds is still the missing piece.
