Fantom Opera Network Shutting Down June 30, 2026
In brief
- Fantom Opera network will shut down June 30, 2026, at 17:00 GMT per Sonic Labs announcement
- Stargate V1 pools hold $486K–$576K TVL; liquidity providers must withdraw before deadline
- Sonic Gateway bridge and FTM-to-S conversion remain operational; on-chain records stay accessible
Migration from Legacy to Sonic
Sonic Labs (the entity formerly known as the Fantom Foundation) rebranded in August 2024 and launched the Sonic mainnet on January 7, 2025. The shutdown of Opera represents the conclusion of a planned transition strategy. By early 2026, the bulk of migration activity from Fantom Opera to Sonic was already complete.
Stargate V1 Liquidity at Risk
Stargate V1 pools on Fantom currently hold between $486K and $576K in total value locked. The protocol's V1 iteration is distinct from its current V2 version. Liquidity providers who haven't withdrawn funds face disruptions once the underlying network ceases operations. The June 30 deadline leaves a narrow window for repositioning capital.
What Remains Operational
Not all infrastructure tied to Fantom Opera will go dark. The Sonic Gateway bridge and the ERC-20 FTM to S token conversion mechanism remain operational after the shutdown. Additionally, historical on-chain records from the Opera network will remain accessible, allowing users and developers to audit past transactions and smart contract interactions.
The shutdown underscores a core risk in blockchain infrastructure: legacy networks eventually reach end-of-life. Liquidity providers and users relying on deprecated chains must stay alert to migration timelines or risk stranded capital.
