Fireblocks disputes Axios report of $2.5 billion Visa acquisition talks
In brief
- Axios reported Visa was in advanced talks to acquire Fireblocks for about $2.5 billion.
- Fireblocks spokesperson told Cointelegraph the report was "not true at present time."
- Visa spokesperson said the company doesn't comment on rumors or speculation.
- Fireblocks announced a valuation above $8 billion after a $550 million Series E in 2022.
What Axios reported
Axios reported on Thursday, citing multiple sources, that Visa was in advanced discussions to buy Fireblocks for roughly $2.5 billion. Those sources weren't named in the report. LeoDex News couldn't independently verify that any talks are taking place, and nothing here should be read as confirmation that they are.
Fireblocks' response was short.
“We are aware of the rumors about a possible acquisition of Fireblocks by Visa. This is news to us, and not true at present time,” a Fireblocks spokesperson told Cointelegraph on Thursday.
The wording matters. Fireblocks said the report isn't true "at present time," which is a narrower statement than a flat denial (and it's worth reading exactly as written, not as more or less than that).
Visa didn't go that far in either direction. A Visa spokesperson told Cointelegraph that the company does not comment on "rumors or speculation."
The valuation gap
Fireblocks' last publicly disclosed valuation was more than $8 billion. The company announced that number after a $550 million Series E funding round in January 2022, and data provider Tracxn listed the $8 billion valuation as recently as Dec. 11, 2025.
Cointelegraph said the reported $2.5 billion price would be a steep discount to that last disclosed figure. That comparison depends entirely on the Axios number, though, and neither company has confirmed it. Fireblocks disputed the report and Visa won't comment, so the gap is only as real as the reporting behind it.
Where things stand
Here's what's actually on the record: Axios reported talks citing unnamed sources, Fireblocks says the report is "not true at present time," and Visa says it doesn't comment on rumors. That's it as of Thursday.
Until one of the two companies says more, the $2.5 billion figure is a reported number, not a disclosed deal term.
