Futu Securities opens BNB deposits and withdrawals for Hong Kong professional investors
In brief
- Futu Securities launched BNB deposits and withdrawals over BNB Smart Chain, according to U.Today.
- Eligibility is limited to professional investors with at least HK$8 million (about $1 million).
- External wallets must pass whitelist checks; withdrawals take up to three business days.
- Binance founder Changpeng Zhao reacted on X; the post's content wasn't reported.
- A planned Hong Kong law would give platforms without a VATP license no transition period, U.Today reported.
What changed for Futu users
Until now, users of Futu's Futubull and moomoo brands could trade BNB only inside the company's closed system. That's what changes. Qualified investors can now move BNB directly between external wallets and Futu brokerage accounts, according to U.Today, which didn't cite a statement from Futu itself.
Not everyone gets access. U.Today said on-chain transactions are open only to professional investors with at least HK$8 million (about $1 million) in capital, and external wallet addresses have to be checked against whitelists in advance to meet AML standards. Withdrawals take up to three business days.
The technical side runs through PantherTrade, a Futu subsidiary licensed by Hong Kong's Securities and Futures Commission (SFC), according to the report. U.Today also described Futu as a NASDAQ-listed broker with a multimillion-user platform.
CZ responded with a post on X, but U.Today didn't report what the post said.
Hong Kong's broader digital push
U.Today said the launch came as Hong Kong's financial sector went through a broad round of digitalization in October 2026. It reported that HSBC launched RedCoin (RCHKD), a stablecoin pegged to the Hong Kong dollar, inside its PayMe app for 3.3 million users. The Anchorpoint Financial consortium (led by Standard Chartered) is still rolling out its own HKDAP stablecoin.
The government has also completed its fourth issuance of digital green bonds, worth HK$20 billion and settled in tokenized deposits, the outlet said. U.Today paraphrased Secretary for Financial Services Christopher Hui as saying digitized capital on the region's bank balance sheets had reached HK$29 billion.
Licensing deadline ahead
The rules are getting tighter too. According to U.Today, a new dedicated law is due to go to the Legislative Council by year-end, and it won't include any transition periods. Platforms without a VATP license would have to stop operating in Hong Kong immediately.
BNB isn't the only network expanding in the region. U.Today noted that Solana-linked competitors are growing there as well, including Pando's listing of a second spot Solana ETF.
