In brief

  • Goldman Sachs, Apex Group, and Archax launch tokenized real estate fund
  • Fund shares issued on GS DAP, Goldman Sachs' blockchain platform
  • Archax provides custody and distribution; LRC Group manages operations
  • Fund bridges blockchain-native issuance with traditional fund structures

Fund structure and participants

Goldman Sachs teamed up with Apex Group and Archax to build the fund, with Ownera and LRC Group also included in the debut offering. Each partner plays a distinct role. LRC Group acts as manager of the fund, while Archax serves as custodian for the regulated digital securities and first distribution partner. Ownera facilitates connectivity between participants and distribution channels. Apex Group provides Alternative Investment Fund Manager services through Fundrock LIS, along with fund administration and depositary services.

Blockchain issuance meets traditional finance

The fund shares are tokenized using GS DAP, Goldman Sachs' blockchain platform. This approach represents a deliberate merger of two worlds. The fund combines blockchain-native issuance with established fund structures, allowing investors to access real estate through a regulated, familiar framework while gaining the benefits of tokenization.

"Issuing blockchain native fund units on GS DAP enables investment in real estate assets with precision while unlocking more seamless transferability in the future" — Mathew McDermott, global head of digital assets at Goldman Sachs

Solving a distribution puzzle

Real estate has proved elusive as an asset class in terms of scalable distribution for tokenization. This fund directly addresses that challenge. By layering blockchain-native mechanics on top of regulated fund infrastructure, the consortium has created a pathway for institutional capital to flow into tokenized real estate without abandoning the compliance and operational frameworks that traditional finance demands. The model suggests how other asset classes might follow.
