In brief

  • Kalshi seeks fresh capital at $40 billion valuation
  • Round nearly doubles previous $22 billion funding valuation
  • Deal expected to close Q3 2026, expanding Polymarket lead
  • CEO Tarek Mansour signals IPO possible after 2027

Closing Timeline and Competitive Positioning

Kalshi could close the fundraising as soon as the third quarter of 2026, positioning the company to widen its valuation lead over rival Polymarket. Polymarket was last reported to be seeking funding at $15 billion, leaving a substantial gap between the two platforms.

The two prediction market operators serve different regulatory and technical architectures. Kalshi operates as a federally regulated exchange in the United States, while Polymarket uses blockchain infrastructure and cryptocurrency-based settlement. This regulatory distinction has shaped their growth trajectories and investor bases.

Investor Roster and IPO Trajectory

Kalshi's previous funding round attracted high-profile investors including Philippe Laffont's Coatue Management, Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, and Morgan Stanley. The fresh capital round would likely draw from similar institutional circles, reinforcing the company's position as a mainstream financial platform.

CEO Tarek Mansour has signaled that an initial public offering is on the company's roadmap, though not before 2027. "A company of our financial profile with the rate of growth that we're seeing, that sort of conversation has to happen," Mansour said on CNBC. "People start asking that question. And we're basically thinking about it, but obviously, we don't have an answer yet."

The timing of both the funding round and eventual IPO reflects Kalshi's trajectory from a niche prediction market platform to a mainstream financial infrastructure play. If the $40 billion valuation round closes in Q3, it would position the company for a potential public debut within 12 to 18 months.
