Korean delegation and tournament structure
Hanjin Brion, BNK FearX, and KT Rolster will represent Korea after finishing 7th, 6th, and 5th respectively in the LCK standings. The trio joins squads from five other competitive regions in what amounts to a second-tier World Championship for teams that didn't make the cut.
The tournament pulls teams from six major competitive regions: the LPL and LCK each contribute three squads, the LEC and LCS send two apiece, and the LCP and CBLOL round out the field with one team each. This structure creates cross-regional matchups that haven't existed in League esports before.
Entry rules and format
The key qualifier for entry is simple and slightly brutal. You have to have missed Worlds. The tournament is designed specifically for teams that fell short of qualification, giving them a second shot at international competition and prestige.
The competition itself splits into two phases. The format starts with best-of-one and best-of-three stages online, then transitions to an offline single-elimination bracket. Starting matches online reduces travel costs and logistical headaches for the early rounds, while the offline portion moves to Beijing for knockout play.
Venue and organization
That offline portion will take place at the Beijing Smart Esports Center, the home venue of JDG. TJ Sports and Huya are handling the organizational duties for the invitational. The shift toward an international format signals growing appetite for competitive League of Legends events beyond the traditional regional championships and Worlds.
