Ripple's RLUSD Stablecoin Launches on Upbit, South Korea's Largest Exchange
In brief
- Upbit lists RLUSD with KRW, BTC, and USDT trading pairs on South Korea's largest exchange
- The 70% market-share platform joins Kraken, Bitstamp, and OKX in supporting Ripple's stablecoin
- South Korea remains a key hub for XRP adoption and stablecoin trading volume
Upbit's Three-Pair Strategy
Upbit's listing gives Korean traders direct access to RLUSD through both fiat and crypto denominations. The KRW pair appeals to local retail buyers who prefer won-based trading. The BTC and USDT pairs cater to more sophisticated traders seeking stablecoin-to-crypto conversions.
Korean exchanges traditionally offer KRW-denominated spot markets rather than stablecoin pairs. Upbit's decision to launch RLUSD across multiple denominations reflects shifting market preferences and the growing role of regulated stablecoins in Asia's trading infrastructure.
RLUSD's Broader Exchange Footprint
Bullish remains the largest venue for RLUSD trading, accounting for roughly 52% of total spot volume. Binance ranks second with the RLUSD/USDT pair capturing roughly 16% of global RLUSD trading volume.
RLUSD has gained traction on major platforms since its launch. Kraken listed the stablecoin in April 2025, followed by Bitstamp in January 2025 and OKX in April 2026. Upbit's addition signals confidence in Ripple's stablecoin rollout among tier-one exchanges.
XRP's Korean Market Strength
South Korea's crypto market has long favored XRP. South Korea has consistently been one of the strongest (if not the strongest markets) for the XRP token. XRP gained adoption on Korean exchanges during the 2017-2018 bull market and has maintained deep liquidity ever since.
On Upbit specifically, XRP/KRW was the exchange's most-traded market, ahead of BTC/KRW in 2025. This retail preference for XRP creates a natural runway for RLUSD adoption, as traders familiar with Ripple's ecosystem expand into the stablecoin.
