In brief

  • Securitize Capital registered with SEC as investment adviser, expanding regulated offerings
  • Curated vaults reach $8.6 billion in assets, fastest-growing DeFi product category
  • Securitize partners with BlackRock, Apollo, KKR, and VanEck on tokenized products
  • SEC Commissioner Peirce flagged crypto vaults as potential adviser-regulated activity

Broadening the regulatory moat

Securitize's subsidiary registered with the SEC as an investment adviser, joining a stack of existing regulated licenses: broker-dealer, alternative trading system, transfer agent, and fund administration services. The firm said the registration gives it a broader foundation to work with asset managers and institutional investors exploring onchain investment strategies.

The move lands as SEC Commissioner Hester Peirce flagged that certain crypto vaults and lending strategies could fall under investment adviser regulations depending on how they're structured and managed. That regulatory clarity matters: curated vaults have grown into one of decentralized finance's fastest-expanding products.

Building Wall Street partnerships

Securitize has emerged as one of the largest providers of tokenization infrastructure, partnering with asset managers including BlackRock, Apollo, KKR, and VanEck. The firm issues BlackRock's BUIDL tokenized money market fund and is working with the New York Stock Exchange to design the platform for tokenized securities trading.

The company has already built infrastructure around tokenized vaults, including permissioned lending vaults with Euler that let institutions allocate capital onchain while maintaining compliance controls.

Securitize completed its public listing earlier this month under the ticker SECZ. Its share price is down nearly 40% through July, a decline that mirrors broader market pressure on fintech and tokenization plays in the sector.
