Shiba Inu's ShibTorch burns stall at 371 of 1,000 BONE, community member says

In brief

  • ShibTorch's page on shib.io showed a "failed to load burn" message, per Ed Salomons' screenshot.
  • ShibTorch holds 371.37 of the 1,000 BONE needed to trigger a burn, Mazrael says.
  • The SHIB bridge route is paused, so the Ethereum half of a burn can't finish.
  • ShibTorch has burned 69.32 billion SHIB, per ShibWatch data cited by Mazrael.

A blank page on shib.io

SHIB community member Ed Salomons shared a screenshot on X of the ShibTorch page on shib.io, which showed a "failed to load burn" message. Mazrael's explanation for the error is mundane. According to him, the page gets its numbers from an indexer that no longer exists, so it shows a load failure. He pulls ShibTorch data from the ShibWatch tracker instead (it reads the same figures directly from the contracts).

The mechanism is simple enough. Mazrael said ShibTorch collects BONE from Shibarium fees, swaps its share to SHIB and burns it on Ethereum. An embedded post in the report says anyone can trigger a burn once the balance reaches 1,000, though the post's author isn't clearly named.

Two things blocking the burn

The first problem is the threshold. Mazrael said the portal needs 1,000 BONE to trigger a burn, and only 371.37 has been collected, so the contract won't start one.

The second is the bridge. Per Mazrael, the "exitandburn" function claims SHIB through the bridge's ERC20 lane, but the "rootchainmanager" hasn't been allowed to release ERC20 tokens from escrow since the 2025 exploit. That means the Ethereum half of the burn can't finish, and he noted a burn attempt could keep failing until the SHIB bridge route reopens.

"But you need the bridge to work for ShibTorch, and it is still collecting BONE gas fees," Mazrael added.

Mazrael describes ShibTorch as under maintenance while work continues on the bridge and other parts of the infrastructure. It's his characterization of the situation.

How big is ShibTorch?

According to ShibWatch data cited by Mazrael, ShibTorch has burned 69.32 billion SHIB, worth $1.27 million in total at the price when each burn happened. Mazrael believes it might be the biggest SHIB burn source after Ethereum co-founder Vitalik Buterin.

For scale, Buterin sent 410.24 trillion SHIB tokens to dead wallets in May 2021.

Frequently asked questions

Why isn't ShibTorch burning SHIB right now?

According to community member Mazrael, the portal needs 1,000 BONE to trigger a burn and only 371.37 has been collected. He also said the SHIB bridge route is paused, so the Ethereum half of a burn can't finish. He noted a burn attempt could keep failing until that route reopens.

How does ShibTorch work?

Mazrael said ShibTorch collects BONE from Shibarium fees, swaps its share to SHIB and burns it on Ethereum. An embedded post in the U.Today report says anyone can trigger a burn once the balance reaches 1,000.

Why does the shib.io ShibTorch page show an error?

According to Mazrael, the ShibTorch page on shib.io gets its numbers from an indexer that no longer exists, so it shows a load failure. He takes ShibTorch data from the ShibWatch tracker instead, which reads the same data directly from the contracts.
