A $1.48 billion transfer, then a flush
U.Today reported that the government's transfers took place over three days and pushed Bitcoin's price down by 7% (that's the outlet's read on cause and effect, not an established fact). It said the move was followed by $859.17 million in forced long-position liquidations across the derivatives market.
Bitcoin fell below $81,000 overnight. Lows landed in the $80,300–$80,600 range, per U.Today, before Friday trading opened at $81,690 and a V-shaped intraday recovery took BTC to $83,068.8.
Fund flows didn't help. U.S. spot Bitcoin ETFs posted net outflows for a second straight day, losing $244.13 million in Thursday's session, according to SoSoValue data cited by U.Today. U.Today also put Ethereum ETF outflows at $72.54 million, without clearly specifying the period. The outlet cited JPMorgan estimates that annual ETF inflows remain at the $50 billion level.
XRP's quiet session
XRP wasn't immune, but it barely moved.
The token traded in a tight range around $1.3947 and fell 1–2%, while the broader altcoin market lost 5–12%, U.Today said. Its share of total crypto market capitalization stood at 3.14%.
Spot XRP ETFs were the only funds to finish positive in the October 8 session, with net inflows of $8.17 million into Franklin Templeton's XRPZ fund (SoSoValue data, via U.Today). Per the same data, institutional inflows into XRP have continued for 12 consecutive weeks, bringing cumulative fund inflows to $1.81 billion. That's above the $1.59 billion attracted by Solana ETFs.
What U.Today's charts show
In its technical read, U.Today said XRP is consolidating above its moving average, with the MA at $1.2796 acting as support, and that the daily RSI has returned to neutral territory. For Bitcoin, the outlet identified the short-liquidity pool above $87,000 as the nearest upside target, ahead of a "Short Max Pain" zone at $87,527.66.
Those are U.Today's levels, not LeoDex's. The outlet described seized-coin transfers by U.S. authorities as the main trigger for panic in this market.
