In brief

  • YouTube expanded AI disclosure labels to appear below long-form videos and as Shorts overlays
  • Automatic detection labels AI-generated videos even without creator disclosure
  • Gemini Omni combines Veo and Genie tools for video creation and remixing
  • New Shorts tools let users restyle videos, insert themselves, and remix other creators' content
  • AI disclosure labels do not affect recommendations or monetization eligibility

Disclosure Labels Get New Placement

YouTube's expanded AI disclosure system places labels directly below the player on long-form videos, while Shorts display them as overlays on the video itself. This marks a shift toward more visible disclosure as the platform rolls out AI-powered editing and remixing tools.

The company will use its own systems to automatically detect and label AI-generated videos even if creators don't disclose AI use. Creators can dispute incorrect labels through YouTube Studio. Disclosures remain permanent for videos made with YouTube AI tools and content with metadata identifying it as AI-generated.

"By moving these labels on to the main stage, viewers get the context they need at a glance. This is now the single label format for all photorealistic and meaningfully AI altered or generated content on YouTube." — YouTube

New AI Tools for Video Creation

Google introduced Gemini Omni at Google I/O 2026, a multimodal AI model combining Gemini with media-generation tools including Veo, Nano Banana, and Genie. The model allows users to create and edit videos using text, images, audio, and existing footage.

YouTube is rolling out new AI tools for Shorts, including the ability to restyle videos, insert creators into clips, and create new versions of other creators' content. The tools expand what's possible for short-form creators.

Monetization and Recommendations Unchanged

The new AI disclosure changes do not affect how a video is recommended or whether it can be monetized. YouTube's goal is balancing transparency with creator incentives, ensuring disclosure doesn't penalize creators using AI tools responsibly.
