The Infrastructure Race
The deal marks Anthropic's latest attempt to secure the immense computing capacity required to train and operate its Claude models as adoption grows among developers, businesses and consumers. Anthropic has signed a series of infrastructure and computing agreements with companies including SpaceX, AMD, Microsoft, Nvidia, Alphabet and Amazon, reflecting the company's sprawling effort to lock in GPU supply.
Anthropic raised $65 billion earlier this year to support its expansion. The company is reportedly considering an initial public offering as soon as this year, a move that would make securing long-term infrastructure commitments critical to its narrative around sustainable growth.
Bitdeer's Pivot and Volta's Momentum
Bitdeer has been converting parts of its energy and data center portfolio from crypto mining to AI cloud services. The company reported approximately $76 million in annual recurring AI cloud revenue in June, with its deployed GPUs operating at a 95% utilization rate. Shares of Bitdeer rose nearly 10% in premarket trading following reports of the agreement.
Bitcoin miners have increasingly pursued AI customers because both industries require access to large amounts of electricity, cooling systems and data center infrastructure. Bitdeer's shift reflects a broader industry trend.
Volta's Rapid Ascent
Volta was founded in January by former Brookfield Asset Management executives. The startup announced that it raised $300 million across seed and Series A financing at a $2.4 billion valuation, with investors including Azora, Andreessen Horowitz, Altimeter and Nvidia. Volta also launched a separate $5 billion infrastructure program with Azora to finance additional AI data centers.
The Norway facility represents the first project in a development pipeline covering more than one gigawatt of planned capacity across Europe and North America. Anthropic declined to comment on the deal.
