Binance France emails tell users accounts close Dec. 31, with fees from Nov. 29
In brief
- Binance France accounts will close Dec. 31, 2026, according to Binance emails reported by Cryptoast.
- Balances still held from Nov. 29 face a 0.025% monthly fee, minimum 10 USDC.
- Crypto not withdrawn by Dec. 31 can be converted, transferred or otherwise processed.
- A Binance spokesperson cited the MiCA transition but didn't confirm the France closure itself.
What the emails say
Binance France is closing up shop, and the email cited by Cryptoast puts it down to an "orderly cessation of activities." Starting Nov. 29, accounts that still hold a balance will pay a monthly maintenance fee of 0.025% of the balance, or at least 10 USDC, according to the email. The exchange said withdrawals have to be completed by Nov. 29 to avoid the fees.
That's the date French users need to watch (not Dec. 31).
"Due to the orderly cessation of activities, your Binance France account will close as of December 31, 2026. If you have not withdrawn your crypto-assets as of December 31, 2026, this message constitutes a notification of our intention to consider your account inactive, in accordance with our Terms of Use."
The email also said inactive status can result in the conversion, transfer or other processing of users' crypto-assets. It's a short line, but it's the one with teeth.
The MiCA backdrop
In late June, Cointelegraph reported that Binance had notified EU users that access to key services would be restricted after the exchange failed to secure MiCA authorization from a member state before a July 1 deadline.
In a reply to Cointelegraph, a Binance spokesperson said that following the end of the MiCA transition period, the exchange is progressively restricting certain services for affected users on a schedule it had already communicated to them. The spokesperson didn't confirm the France closure specifically. Cointelegraph also asked about reports that similar emails had gone to users in Spain and Belgium; those reports are unconfirmed, and the spokesperson didn't mention them.
Why it matters
Binance's global client base counts at least 300 million customers, according to media reports, and its app was downloaded more than 4 million times in the EU in the prior year. For anyone still holding crypto on Binance France, the math is simple: the fee clock starts Nov. 29, roughly a month before the accounts actually close.
