In brief

  • Charles Hoskinson replied "List ADA" to Tyler Winklevoss's X post marking Gemini's 11th anniversary.
  • ADA remains unlisted on Gemini, which supports SOL, AVAX, DOT, ATOM and XTZ.
  • Gemini has never made a public statement specifically about ADA, according to U.Today.
  • Hoskinson estimated in 2025 that Gemini had missed about $70 million in revenue over five years.

A two-word reply

Tyler Winklevoss, Gemini's co-founder, marked the exchange's 11th anniversary by sharing a company birthday message on X. Hoskinson's reply was two words long, according to U.Today.

"List ADA."

Gemini supports proof-of-stake assets including Solana (SOL), Avalanche (AVAX), Polkadot (DOT), Cosmos (ATOM) and Tezos (XTZ), but not ADA. Cardano supporters have often asked why one of the most established proof-of-stake assets is missing from that list.

Gemini hasn't said. According to U.Today, there's never been a public statement from the exchange specifically about ADA. Its published listing policy says it considers maturity, liquidity, market demand, utility, regulatory considerations, cybersecurity risks and control concentration when evaluating assets.

A running joke since 2022

It isn't the first time Hoskinson has raised this. In December 2022, while Gemini was struggling with crypto lender Genesis, he joked that not listing ADA was "pretty tightly correlated" with bankruptcy and reckless behavior. The remark came shortly after FTX collapsed without ever launching a spot market for ADA.

He came back to it in a Twitter Spaces chat later that month:

"We are still not on Gemini. Turns out that's probably a good thing because FTX didn't list us either," he joked.

In September 2024, Hoskinson showed up next to Gemini's booth holding a handwritten sign about ADA (his caption on the X post read "I'm just saying... @Gemini.").

The $70 million claim

By 2025 the tone had sharpened. In an interview with Blockchain Daily, Hoskinson said Gemini was the last major crypto exchange that didn't trade ADA. He estimated the exchange had probably missed out on about $70 million in revenue over five years by not listing it, and argued that rivals such as Binance and Coinbase had profited from ADA trading.

Both the revenue estimate and the "last major exchange" point are Hoskinson's own claims from that interview.

Gemini hasn't publicly addressed ADA, U.Today reported, so the latest exchange on X is still one-sided.
