CXMT launches 24-Gbit LPDDR5X memory in China's semiconductor push

The new LPDDR5X lineup

CXMT's LPDDR5X lineup spans 12Gb and 16Gb dies, with packaged solutions available in 12GB, 16GB, and 24GB capacities. The company began mass production of LPDDR5X at speeds of 8,533 Mbps and 9,600 Mbps in May 2025. By October 2025, the company had moved to customer sampling for its top-tier 10,667 Mbps variant.

The performance gains are substantial. Compared to previous-generation memory, the LPDDR5X products deliver a 66% increase in bandwidth and roughly 30% reduction in power consumption. That efficiency matters for mobile devices and edge computing, where thermal headroom and battery life drive adoption decisions.

From lab to market

CXMT showcased its progress publicly. At the International IC China expo in November 2025, the company displayed DDR5 products hitting speeds up to 8,000 Mbps with die densities of 24Gb. By mid-2026, CXMT's LPDDR5X memory had entered commercial supply chains, powering devices including the Nubia NaviX Ultra smartphone.

The company didn't stop there. By September 2026, CXMT had initiated mass production of LPDDR6 memory, with Xiaomi's Xiaomi 18 Fold among the early devices to adopt the next-generation standard. That's the pace of a company that's learned to execute.

Scale and ambition

CXMT operates multiple 12-inch fabrication facilities in Hefei and Beijing, with a production capacity target of approximately 300,000 wafers per month by the end of 2026. Capacity at that scale matters — it's the difference between a boutique supplier and a real competitor.

CXMT has been methodically climbing the technology ladder from DDR4 to LPDDR5X to LPDDR6. The company is also reportedly exploring NAND flash technologies, which would give it a presence across both major categories of memory chips. Combined with plans for an eventual IPO, CXMT appears to be building toward something much larger than a niche domestic player.
