The Development Story
Billy Markus, co-creator of Dogecoin along with Jackson Palmer, served as the solo developer for the first Dogecoin Core releases. When both co-founders left development in 2014, a new team stepped in. Over the years, the Dogecoin development team has consisted of a small group of maintainers coordinating the work of several contributors.
The misconception persists despite this history. The official response named the core Dogecoin team, the Dogecoin Foundation, House of Doge, MyDoge, and DogeOS, along with hundreds of ecosystem projects. This collective effort spans from protocol maintenance to application development.
Recent Ecosystem Activity
Development work extends beyond core protocol updates. In 2015, beginning with Dogecoin Core 1.10.0, the Dogecoin development team decided to re-fork Dogecoin off Bitcoin, reapplying Litecoin changes on top of the Bitcoin codebase. This technical shift shaped Dogecoin's evolution over the past decade.
Recent months show continued momentum. The Such App, which launched in beta in May, has received a new update. Beta users can now generate and share their unique invite code. In June, House of Doge partnered with MoonPay to bring native Dogecoin deposits to more than 6,000 merchants worldwide, expanding payment infrastructure across the ecosystem.
The Dogecoin community continues to build across multiple fronts. Protocol maintenance, wallet development, merchant integrations, and application launches demonstrate active, distributed development. The X post clarified what the Dogecoin website has long stated: developers have been part of Dogecoin since day one.
