In brief

  • Dtcpay closed $25M Series A led by Vertex Ventures with SBI Group as strategic investor
  • Singapore payments firm plans merchant network expansion, enterprise portal upgrades, and consumer app features
  • Dtcpay holds Singapore MAS and Luxembourg licenses, operates Visa card at 150M+ merchants globally

SBI's Regional Ambitions

Vertex Ventures Southeast Asia & India led the initial tranche of the Series A, with Genedant Capital and existing investor Kwee Liong Tek also participating. SBI deployed capital through two investment vehicles: SBI Ventures Asset Pte Ltd and the SBI-NTU-Kyobo Digital Innovation Fund. The company did not disclose its valuation or individual investor contributions.

SBI Ven Capital CEO Eiichiro So framed the move as foundational. He linked it to SBI's ambition to expand digital-asset origination between Japan and Southeast Asia through regulated financial infrastructure. For a Japanese megabank to commit capital to a stablecoin infrastructure play signals confidence in the regulatory path forward.

Dtcpay's Infrastructure and Reach

Dtcpay's infrastructure lets businesses and individuals accept, store and transact in stablecoins, with a swap engine connecting stablecoin and fiat settlement. The company already counts Singapore department store Metro and hospitality business Capella Singapore among its commerce relationships.

The startup also operates a Visa card that enables transactions across fiat currencies and stablecoins at more than 150 million merchant locations worldwide. This dual-currency access reduces friction for users moving between traditional payments and digital assets.

Regulatory Footprint and Next Steps

Dtcpay holds a Major Payment Institution license from the Monetary Authority of Singapore and an Electronic Money Institution license in Luxembourg. This regulatory foundation gives the platform legitimacy in two jurisdictions and positions it for expansion into additional markets.

Co-founder and group chairman Band Zhao identified stronger infrastructure, deeper financial-institution partnerships and entry into additional regulated markets as priorities going forward. The SBI capital directly addresses those objectives—the Japanese group brings both institutional credibility and regional connectivity across Asia.
