Emirates chairman visits Ripple's booth at Dubai FinTech Summit, Merrick says

In brief

  • Emirates Airline Chairman Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum visited Ripple's Dubai FinTech Summit booth.
  • DIFC Governor Essa Kazim and DIFC CEO Arif Amiri also visited Ripple's stand.
  • Reece Merrick said Ripple remains committed to scaling its Middle East footprint from its DIFC hub.
  • U.Today noted the visit alone doesn't signal a new partnership or agreement.

What Merrick said

Merrick called it an incredible week at the summit in his X post. He described a busy couple of days with immense interest and strong engagement around Ripple's offerings across the Middle East (that's his characterization, and the post doesn't put numbers on it).

He also tied the event back to the company's base in Dubai's financial free zone.

"We remain deeply committed to scaling our footprint in the Middle East out of our @DIFC hub."

Merrick also took part in a summit panel on how digital assets could scale, sitting alongside executives from BlackRock, Standard Chartered and Robinhood, according to U.Today.

A visit, not a deal

It's worth being precise about what happened here. A senior figure from one of the region's best-known companies walked up to Ripple's booth, and two of the DIFC's top officials did the same. That's the event.

U.Today noted that the visit doesn't, by itself, signal a new partnership or agreement. There's nothing in the reporting that points to a business relationship between Ripple and Emirates, and readers shouldn't read one into a booth photo.

Ripple's DIFC base

The Dubai link isn't new, though.

According to U.Today, Ripple said in 2026 that it was expanding in the UAE by opening its Middle East and Africa regional headquarters in the DIFC. The outlet also reported that Ripple announced a partnership with the DIFC Innovation Hub in 2024 to promote blockchain innovation in the UAE.

So when Merrick talks about scaling "out of our @DIFC hub," he's pointing at an office and a relationship with the financial centre that U.Today's reporting says already exist. What the summit adds, based on his own account, is a couple of days of visible attention from the people who run that financial centre and from Emirates' top executive. Whether that attention turns into anything concrete isn't something the source addresses, and we won't guess at it.
