Ethereum Foundation seeks app-layer feedback as Hegotá tier list ranks 62 EIPs
In brief
- EF's App Enablement team asked protocol teams for feedback on EIPs and Layer 1 constraints.
- Hegotá's first tier list, published September 7 by the EF Protocol Cluster, covered 62 EIPs.
- EIP-7805 (FOCIL) and EIP-8141 (Frame Transactions) were the only two S-tier proposals.
- Hegotá is expected in 2027; the client deadline and Reddit AMA both fell in September.
What the tier list showed
The Protocol Cluster published its first-ever tier list for Hegotá on September 7, 2026, covering 62 EIPs. It wasn't a quick poll. According to Crypto Briefing, the evaluation drew on feedback from roughly 60 researchers and engineers across nine teams and produced 397 individual grades.
Two proposals reached S-tier, the top of the ranking: EIP-7805 (FOCIL) and EIP-8141 (Frame Transactions). That rating meant both were considered must-ship components of the Hegotá core, per the report.
FOCIL targets censorship resistance at the validator level through fork-choice enforced inclusion lists. Frame Transactions is about account abstraction, and Crypto Briefing wrote that it extends work that began with EIP-4337.
Why app-layer feedback matters here
The EF's Platform team has been working to make sure ecosystem requirements (what wallets and defi protocols need, for example) feed into protocol-level decisions before those decisions are locked in, the outlet reported. That's the context for the App Enablement team's outreach to protocol teams on EIPs and Layer 1 constraints.
Hegotá is expected in 2027.
The September timeline
Those milestones are already behind us. The deadline for client-team preference submissions was September 10, 2026, a few days after the tier list went out. The Protocol Cluster also scheduled a public Reddit AMA for September 16, 2026, meant as a forum to discuss EIP preferences and the reasoning behind tier assignments.
LeoDex News hasn't independently verified the tier list details. They're attributed here to the Ethereum Foundation's process as described by Crypto Briefing.
Frequently asked questions
What is the Hegotá tier list?
It's a ranking of candidate EIPs for Ethereum's Hegotá upgrade, which is expected in 2027. The EF Protocol Cluster published the first version on September 7, 2026, covering 62 EIPs, according to Crypto Briefing. Feedback came from about 60 researchers and engineers across nine teams.
Which EIPs reached S-tier for Hegotá?
Two did: EIP-7805 (FOCIL) and EIP-8141 (Frame Transactions). Crypto Briefing reported that S-tier marks must-ship parts of the Hegotá core. FOCIL targets censorship resistance at the validator level, and Frame Transactions is about account abstraction.
