Fang was replying to a post from RippleX head of engineering J.A. Akinyele about where XRPL agentic payments go from here. Akinyele had earlier predicted they'd cross 10 million. He said that's now been surpassed, with the XRP Ledger processing over 13 million transactions with more than 160 x402 merchants, by his own figures.

The use case isn't purely hypothetical, though. U.Today reported that agents are already paying for APIs, data and compute, which is the kind of machine-to-machine spending x402 merchants are set up to take.

U.Today's report didn't give a timeline for those tools. What it did carry is a growth curve both men are happy to point to, and Akinyele's forecast that 100 million agentic transactions might come sooner than expected. Whether merchants beyond the current x402 cohort show up to meet it is the part readers can actually track, transaction by transaction, on the ledger.
