JPMorgan brings JPM Coin deposit token to Ethereum mainnet, institutions only
In brief
- JPM Coin (JPMD) went live on Ethereum's main network on Oct. 19, according to JPMorgan.
- The deposit token has been available to institutional clients on Base since November 2025.
- CryptoSlate reports the announcement included no retail rollout for Ethereum wallet holders.
- CryptoSlate says the announcement specified no live facility for using JPMD to buy or redeem JPMorgan's tokenized funds.
What JPMorgan announced
JPM Coin uses the ticker JPMD. It digitally represents a bank deposit, so it isn't a new asset so much as a bank balance that can move on-chain.
The bank's Ethereum announcement said the token supports peer-to-peer transfers between institutional clients across the Ethereum Virtual Machine ecosystem (Base and Ethereum included). JPMorgan said the expansion puts native cash on the network where institutions already transact with tokenized assets, collateral and counterparties.
Base is an Ethereum Layer 2. JPM Coin became available to institutional clients there on Nov. 12, 2025, after a proof of concept that began in June 2025, CryptoSlate reported. This month's launch adds the Layer 1 itself.
Public chain, private access
It's not open to every Ethereum wallet.
CryptoSlate's reading of the announcement is that participation remains tied to JPMorgan's institutional client base, with no retail rollout included. Running on a public network doesn't change who's allowed to hold the token. JPMorgan did describe programmable treasury through institutional clients' wallet interfaces as a potential use of JPMD, though the bank framed that as a possibility rather than a live feature.
Where the funds fit (and don't)
JPMorgan already has tokenized products on Ethereum. JPMorgan Asset Management launched My OnChain Net Yield Fund (MONY) on Ethereum on Dec. 15, 2025, as a private-placement money market fund for qualified investors via Morgan Money, according to CryptoSlate. The JPMorgan OnChain Liquidity-Token Money Market Fund (JLTXX), a US-registered government money-market fund, followed on May 13, 2026.
So can a client use JPMD to buy into either fund today? CryptoSlate says the October announcement didn't specify a live facility for using JPMD to subscribe to or redeem either one. It also noted that access to a fund through Morgan Money doesn't establish eligibility to use JPM Coin.
That leaves the bank's deposit token and its tokenized funds sitting on the same chain, with no announced connection between them yet.
Frequently asked questions
Can retail users hold JPM Coin on Ethereum?
Not under this announcement. CryptoSlate reports that participation remains tied to JPMorgan's institutional client base and that the Oct. 19 announcement included no retail rollout. Being on a public network doesn't make the token available to every Ethereum wallet holder.
Can JPM Coin be used to buy JPMorgan's tokenized money market funds?
According to CryptoSlate, the October announcement didn't specify a live facility for using JPMD to subscribe to or redeem MONY or JLTXX. CryptoSlate also noted that access to a fund through Morgan Money doesn't establish eligibility to use JPM Coin.
How is the Ethereum launch different from JPM Coin on Base?
Base is an Ethereum Layer 2 network, where JPM Coin became available to institutional clients on Nov. 12, 2025. The October launch adds Ethereum's Layer 1 main network itself, and JPMorgan said the token supports peer-to-peer transfers between institutional clients on both.
