Ripple partners with Water.org to deploy RLUSD for safe water access
In brief
- Ripple named exclusive digital asset partner for Water.org's Get Blue campaign targeting 200 million people by 2030.
- RLUSD stablecoin enables cross-border charitable fund transfers in minutes, reducing microfinance lending costs.
- Water.org has reached 85 million people; 2 billion globally still lack safe water access.
Partnership structure and funding model
Ripple will provide seed funding and deploy its payments infrastructure to move charitable resources to Water.org's microfinance partners. The approach centers on RLUSD, a USD-backed stablecoin, which can move across borders on blockchain rails in minutes rather than days.
This speed matters. Every percentage point saved on transfer costs means more microloans funded. When you're trying to reach 200 million people, those margins compound quickly.
The WaterCredit model and scale
Water.org, co-founded by Matt Damon and Gary White, has already reached more than 85 million people through its WaterCredit model. WaterCredit provides small loans to families in developing countries so they can finance their own water and sanitation solutions.
The need is urgent. More than 2 billion people worldwide lack access to safe water at home. Get Blue founding partners include Gap Inc., Amazon, Starbucks, and Ecolab, signaling corporate commitment to the initiative.
Timeline and rollout
Consumer-facing activations for the campaign are scheduled for summer 2026. The partnership positions blockchain payments infrastructure as a tool for reducing friction in charitable capital flows, not speculation or price appreciation.
