Ten years of Swell
Swell started in Toronto in October 2017, and the 2026 edition is the tenth. Over that stretch it's become a major conference for financial institutions, policymakers, blockchain developers and XRP community members, according to U.Today.
This year's opening day had a Washington tie-in. U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent made a video appearance on Swell's first day and joined Garlinghouse in a discussion, U.Today reported. Garlinghouse called it an honor to open the event with Bessent, and he commended the Treasury Secretary for his work shaping the U.S. regulatory landscape for digital assets.
"His leadership and the current administration have been key to making sure that responsible crypto has a home in the US," Garlinghouse noted.
It's a long way from Toronto in 2017.
What Ripple announced
Garlinghouse's X post, as reported by U.Today, also pointed to a string of company announcements around the event.
Ripple said it's expanding its partnership with Robinhood, under which Ripple's financial infrastructure will be integrated into customer-facing products and internal systems. There's a BNY deal too. Garlinghouse noted an expanded partnership with BNY covering institutional digital asset custody and tokenized trade finance solutions with RLUSD, XRP and the XRP Ledger.
Ripple Treasury, meanwhile, launched a product called 24/7 Returns.
The trust bank approval
The regulatory item on the list was Ripple National Trust Bank. Ripple said it received final approval from the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) to open the bank, per U.Today's report on the company's announcements.
Once it's active, the federally regulated institution is to manage RLUSD reserves and institutional digital asset custody. Custody shows up in both the BNY deal and the trust bank plans, so it's a thread that ran through more than one of Ripple's Swell announcements.
The main Swell event was scheduled for October 28–29.
