Ripple's Swell agenda puts AI payments and XRP Ledger verification on stage
In brief
- Swell runs October 27 to 29, 2026, in New York, according to U.Today.
- Organizers expect 1,500 decision-makers from finance, crypto, academia and the XRP ecosystem.
- Ripple engineer Vito Tumas and Common Prefix's Dejan Cabrilo will discuss formally verifying the XRP Ledger.
- An October 28 session will examine agentic payments and machine-to-machine infrastructure.
A countdown from Ripple's engineering team
Ripple senior software engineer Vito Tumas posted a countdown to Swell on X (one week to go, by his count). His post tied the event to AI and ledger security.
"One week to go! Technology driving AI breakthroughs in maths applied to secure XRP Ledger!"
Tumas is scheduled to speak alongside Dejan Cabrilo, a staff software engineer at Common Prefix, in a session titled "Proof Over Trust: Formally Verifying the XRP Ledger." The talk will walk through Common Prefix's ongoing collaboration with Ripple on formally verifying the ledger, with the aim of proving that existing and upcoming protocols are correct.
That's work in progress, not a finished result.
Why formal verification matters for XRPL
The XRP Ledger is implemented in C++ by xrpld, and U.Today notes the codebase is already tested with a substantial test suite plus Antithesis-based fuzzing. Tests have a hard limit, though (they only catch the bugs that actually show up in a testing scenario). They can't show that a protocol invariant holds for every possible input. Formal verification can.
AI agents and machine-to-machine payments
A second session, "What Happens When AI Moves Money?", is set for Wednesday, October 28. It'll look at the emerging architecture of agentic payments, from new protocols and digital wallets to the infrastructure needed to make machine-to-machine payments a reality. U.Today framed the backdrop plainly: AI agents are starting to interact with financial infrastructure and move value on their own.
Listed speakers include Massimo Cervesato; Nilesh Dusane of Amazon Web Services; Henri Stern of Stripe Crypto and Privy; and Edward Woodford of ZeroHash. They're on the program as speakers, and the report doesn't describe any partnership between their companies and Ripple.
U.Today also said Swell has historically been where Ripple makes its most significant product and partnership announcements. That's the outlet's expectation based on past editions, not a confirmed slate for New York.
Frequently asked questions
When and where is Ripple's Swell 2026?
Swell is scheduled for October 27 to 29, 2026, in New York, according to U.Today. The outlet said the event will bring together 1,500 decision-makers from traditional finance, crypto, academia and the XRP ecosystem.
Why formally verify the XRP Ledger if it's already tested?
The XRP Ledger is implemented in C++ by xrpld and is tested with a substantial test suite plus Antithesis-based fuzzing. Tests only catch bugs that show up in testing scenarios and can't show that a protocol invariant holds for every possible input. Formal verification can, which is the focus of Common Prefix's ongoing work with Ripple.
What will the AI payments session at Swell cover?
The session 'What Happens When AI Moves Money?' is set for October 28, 2026. It will cover the architecture of agentic payments, including new protocols, digital wallets and the infrastructure needed for machine-to-machine payments.
