Reserve Composition and Assets
Tether held approximately $187.75 billion in assets as of June 30, 2026, against liabilities of $183.64 billion, leaving a reserve surplus of roughly $4.11 billion. Most assets backing USDT remain invested in short-term U.S. Treasuries, repurchase agreements, and other highly liquid government-backed assets, which generated most of the quarter's operating profit.
The stablecoin's backing reflects a conservative approach to reserves. Those investments generated most of the quarter's operating profit, underscoring Tether's reliance on fixed-income instruments rather than volatile crypto holdings.
Growth and Gold Accumulation
USDT supply increased by about $446 million from the end of March to the end of June, reflecting steady demand for the stablecoin. Notably, Tether's market share increased to more than 60% despite overall stablecoin market contraction, consolidating its dominance in the category.
On the physical asset front, the company added 14 metric tons of physical gold during Q2 2026, increasing its holdings to more than 146 metric tons. The gold expansion signals Tether's diversification beyond traditional financial instruments.
Risk Reduction
Tether reduced its secured lending exposure by approximately $2.38 billion, or 15%, during the quarter. This pullback aligns with the company's stated focus on capital preservation and risk mitigation.
"These results show that Tether has the liquidity, discipline and scale to remain resilient across market cycles while continuing to serve hundreds of millions of users around the world" — Paolo Ardoino, CEO of Tether
