Self-Custodial Design Meets Mainstream Finance

World Money is a self-custodial wallet that lets users hold stablecoin balances alongside local currency equivalents. The self-custodial design distinguishes it from centralized fintech apps—users maintain control of their own keys, and the platform does not take custody of funds. This architecture prioritizes security and user sovereignty while integrating with the traditional financial system.

Transfers between users happen via username, complete in seconds, and are typically fee-free. The app supports deposits of multiple assets, including Worldcoin (WLD), USDC, EURC, and various local wrapped currencies, giving users flexibility in which stablecoins to hold.

Yield and Institutional Integration

Yield-earning features are powered by an integration with Morpho, a decentralized lending protocol. This lets users earn returns on stablecoin holdings without leaving the app. On the traditional finance side, World Money integrates with Bridge for virtual account management, handling the plumbing that connects the crypto-native wallet to the traditional financial system.

Circle has been aggressively expanding USDC's reach and building developer tools, while Stripe acquired Bridge and has been integrating stablecoin payments into its merchant network. These moves signal broader institutional adoption of stablecoins in fintech infrastructure.

From Identity to Finance

The World App began when Worldcoin launched in 2023. Users could verify their humanity by scanning their iris with an Orb device and receive a World ID. The World App gradually expanded its feature set throughout 2025, adding encrypted chat functionality and enhanced payment options.

Existing World App users won't need to start from scratch—the transition to World Money carries over World ID verification automatically. World ID provides a sybil-resistant verification system built on iris scanning that could prove valuable for compliance, fraud prevention, and tiered access to financial services.

This convergence of identity, payments, and DeFi represents a deliberate attempt to build a unified platform where verification, payments, savings, and investing all operate under one roof.
