In brief

  • Binance says it has replenished 90% of assets stolen in its $6.3 billion hack.
  • The replenished share rose from about 80% a day earlier, Cointelegraph reported.
  • Withdrawals remain on track to resume Sunday, Binance said.
  • Less-liquid tokens make up the remaining shortfall, Cointelegraph reported.

Where the replenishment stands

The new number comes from Binance's Saturday update, as reported by Cointelegraph. A day earlier, the exchange had put the figure at about 80%. So in one day, the share of stolen assets that's been replaced rose by about 10 percentage points (by Binance's own count).

These are Binance's numbers. The 90% figure, the earlier 80% figure and the $6.3 billion size of the hack all come from the exchange, relayed through Cointelegraph's report. They aren't independent estimates; they're what Binance has said.

The less-liquid tail

According to Cointelegraph, less-liquid tokens make up the remaining shortfall.

That's the slice still open.

Binance continues buying replacement assets through market and over-the-counter trades, the report said. That means the exchange is sourcing tokens through open-market trades as well as over-the-counter deals.

The report didn't put a dollar value on what's still missing, and it didn't name the tokens involved. It also didn't give a date for when the buying would wrap up.

Sunday's withdrawal target

Binance said it remained on track to resume withdrawals on Sunday. It's a target the exchange has set for itself. It isn't a confirmed restart.

Until withdrawals actually reopen, both the 90% figure and the Sunday date rest on what Binance has said, as reported by Cointelegraph.
