HYPE hits record $90.92 as Hyperliquid launches manual borrowing
In brief
- HYPE reached all-time high of $90.92 on Friday
- Hyperliquid launched manual borrowing for USDC and USDT against HYPE and Bitcoin collateral
- Manual borrowing uses HyperCore infrastructure shared with portfolio-margin system
- $269 million in assets borrowed across infrastructure on Friday
Manual Borrowing Goes Live
HYPE surged as high as $90.92 shortly after the platform announced the new lending feature. Users can now supply HYPE and Bitcoin as collateral to borrow USDC and USDT, the two largest dollar-pegged stablecoins in crypto.
The manual borrowing feature and Hyperliquid's existing portfolio-margin system share the same underlying HyperCore infrastructure. This architecture ensures that every borrowed asset comes from a supplier rather than being created through platform-level margin accounting—a key distinction for risk management.
Market Activity and Liquidity
Hyperliquid reported $269 million in assets borrowed across the underlying infrastructure on Friday. The rapid uptake suggests strong demand from traders seeking to access stablecoin liquidity without unwinding existing positions.
Hyperliquid co-founder Jeff Yan emphasized the mechanism's design: "every borrowed asset comes from a supplier rather than being created through platform-level margin accounting." This peer-to-peer borrowing model contrasts with centralized lending pools and distributes credit risk across the supplier network.
The timing of manual borrowing's launch aligns with broader momentum in onchain derivatives. Payward, the parent company of Kraken, announced plans to deploy onchain perpetual futures markets for US clients on Wednesday, signaling accelerating institutional interest in decentralized trading infrastructure.
