THORChain restarts swaps on 10 of 13 networks after refund bug as RUNE rises

In brief

  • THORChain's status page marked trading OK on 10 of 13 listed external networks.
  • BNB Smart Chain, Cosmos Hub and Solana still showed trading and signing warnings.
  • A one-block Ethereum reorg caused a double refund and an extra 10 ETH payout, THORChain said.
  • RUNE traded near $0.64 on Wednesday, up about 15% in a day, per CoinMarketCap.

What's back online and what isn't

Bitcoin, Ethereum, Bitcoin Cash, Dogecoin, Litecoin, Tron and Zcash were among the networks showing trading re-enabled on THORChain's network status page, according to Cointelegraph. Avalanche, Base and XRP were already operating when Cointelegraph reported on the halt on Monday.

Three chains are still flagged.

BNB Smart Chain, Cosmos Hub and Solana continued to show warnings for both trading and transaction signing. The partial restart restores access to several cross-chain swap routes, but those three networks haven't been cleared yet.

How a one-block reorg became an extra 10 ETH

The disruption began on Saturday. According to THORChain's own account, as relayed by Cointelegraph, a one-block Ethereum reorganization removed a 10 ETH deposit that the protocol had already credited.

The swap then failed to meet its price limit, so THORChain issued a refund against funds its vault had never received. The sender's actual deposit was refunded as well, which produced an extra 10 ETH payout and triggered an automatic pause. Node operators subsequently paused trading across multiple networks while developers investigated what had happened.

RUNE price

THORChain's RUNE was trading at around $0.64 on Wednesday, up approximately 15% from the previous day, according to CoinMarketCap data cited by Cointelegraph.

For users swapping across chains, the picture right now is split. Routes on Bitcoin, Ethereum and the other re-enabled networks are open again, while anything that depends on BNB Smart Chain, Cosmos Hub or Solana still shows warnings on the status page. Until those clear, three of THORChain's 13 listed external networks don't have trading marked "OK."

Which THORChain networks are still paused?

BNB Smart Chain, Cosmos Hub and Solana continued to show warnings for both trading and transaction signing on THORChain's network status page, Cointelegraph reported. Trading and signing were marked OK on 10 of the protocol's 13 listed external networks, including Bitcoin and Ethereum.
