Shibarium DEX Volume Crashes 95% to $72 as Trading Halts

In brief

  • Shibarium DEX volume crashed 95% to $72 by July 29, with most protocols recording zero activity
  • WoofSwap, DogSwap, and other DEX protocols on Shibarium posted zero trading volume
  • ShibaSwap generated all $72 in weekly DEX volume on the network
  • Shiba Inu token surged 35%+ during the same week despite DEX collapse

DEX Activity Hits a Wall

WoofSwap and DogSwap registered zero activity for a full week on Shibarium. ShibaSwap remained the only protocol with modest trading, accounting for all $72 in DEX volume. Multiple other decentralized protocols—including Shibex, PunkSwap, MARSWAP, and ChewySwap—recorded zero trading activity over the same period.

The network faced extremely slow on-chain performance across the DeFi ecosystem throughout the week. One exchange carrying the entire network's liquidity raises questions about market depth and resilience on Shibarium.

What This Means for Network Health

DEX volumes typically indicate the strength or weakness of a network. The massive drop shows that users are barely swapping assets or interacting with decentralized applications.

However, DEX volume is one metric among many. Other indicators—such as total on-chain transaction counts, total value locked (TVL), and active user addresses—would provide a fuller picture of Shibarium's health. A temporary dip in DEX volume does not necessarily indicate broader network dysfunction.

The Token-Utility Disconnect

The disconnect between token price and DEX volume may reflect several factors: temporary market volatility, user preference for holding over trading, or early-stage adoption patterns where price discovery precedes utility. Shiba Inu registered a daily price surge of over 35% during the week, yet on-chain trading remained dormant.

Additional on-chain metrics would clarify the underlying trend and whether this represents a sustained shift in user behavior or a temporary lull in activity.
